Rationale for nom-036-stps

According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Mexico is one of the countries with the longest working hours and 75% of its workers suffer from work-related stress. In addition, research by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) revealed that 85% of Mexican organizations do not have adequate conditions to offer their employees a healthy work environment.

To address this situation and protect the physical and mental integrity of workers, the Mexican government approved NOM-035-STPS-2018, which aims to identify, analyze and prevent psychosocial risk factors, as well as promote a favorable organizational environment.

This course will help directors, managers, supervisors and Human Resources executives, as well as those in charge of compliance and enforcement of NOM-035-STPS-2018, to understand in a clear and simple way the main concepts set forth in the Standard, and the obligations that organizations have to comply with to avoid sanctions by the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS).

On October 23, 2018, the Mexican Government established the Mexican Official Standard 035 – Psychosocial risk factors at work – Identification, analysis and prevention (NOM-035-STPS-2018) as an instrument that would allow organizations to identify and analyze psychosocial risk factors, as well as to evaluate the organizational work environments in which collaborators develop their activities.

In this way, it established the prevention and intervention actions, and the obligations to be fulfilled, on the one hand for the employer and the organization, and on the other hand, for the workers, with the purpose of generating favorable organizational environments.

Finally, since its publication, the implementation of NOM-035 was proposed gradually, first to learn about it, and then to prepare for its application. As of 2021, its implementation is mandatory, hence the relevance of being prepared and ready to integrate it into workplaces.
