CD Projekt’s digital store adds another jewel of the extinct LucasArts, and this time it is a real rarity: ‘Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine’ can now be downloaded, for the first time in digital format, from GOG.

After three iconic graphic adventures and its passage through consoles, Indie dared with a formula closer to the successful ‘Tomb Raider’ before the arrival of the turn of the millennium, which meant three-dimensional environments and a greater emphasis on exploration, platforming and some doses of action.

The game takes us to the beginnings of the cold war, offering us a plot divided into 16 chapters -and a secret level- in which we will travel to Babylon, Mexico and other exotic areas while we solve puzzles, give all kinds of uses to our whip and inevitably end up embarked on a race to take control of a mysterious infernal machine.

LucasArts spared no means for the return of Indie from the successful ‘Fate of Atlantis’ of 1992, counting for the occasion with an orchestrated BSO of 130 pieces and a cover drawn by Drew Struzan himself. In addition, the game made use of the Sith Engine from ‘Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II’ and ‘Grim Fandango’.

With this nice approach, and with the evil Russians as enemies, Indy begins his adventure, which will take him through 17 huge levels with a multitude of puzzles, enemies and not very credible jumps to discover the truth about the machine.

The game has elements of action and puzzle elements, the first will be solved with numerous weapons and, of course, with the whip. The latter will require the good use of your intelligence, although overall, the difficulty of the game is not a big deal, and with the clues you are given and the lower difficulty levels, it will not be difficult to move forward (but the game is long).

Graphics:The game uses the Jedy Knight graphics engine, which is a bit “primitive” for today’s times, so the graphic quality of the game, although it is a very worked aspect, is not up to the current wonders, as some of Indy’s movements are extremely mechanical.

Playability:Perhaps the weakest aspect. Control with the keyboard is very complicated, and control with the mouse is practically impossible. With a gamepad, as there are not as many buttons as movements and possibilities, it is also difficult, so the simplest option (keyboard) is the best, but confusing keys is the order of the day and when you have to jump over a chasm, a “typo” can be fatal. Anyway, the game responds well to the movements, and Indy has a large repertoire of actions.
